Mojave Red (Houston, TX)

Mojave Red was born in a misty womb fogged out with a hazy reverb, an abstract portrait. After fronting a few bands and haphazardly hitting the streets of downtown Houston, singer and guitarist Josh Cobb turned to the refuge of home-recording to help realize a gnawing artistic vision. The product was a pseudo-minimalist garage/soul fusion that earned monikers like “graj rock prince” [rip]. After grinding through Houston’s underground arts and music scene for three years, the enigmatic act found a foothold in the maturing psychedelic and shoe-gazing music scenes in and around the state of Texas, coasting on the hometown success of their ‘Creeper’ EP, characterized by an obnoxious amount of reverb and its bedroom production style. The band is continuing to blossom, and their newest single ‘Fading Out’ is their most recent and polished release to date, a lo-fi opus of warbling guitars that exhibits a soulful and ranged vocal atop the pulsing nature of a psychedelic hip-hop beat. Coming off a regional tour, the group has kept busy, hitting cities all over Texas and the larger gulf coast, from McAllen to Galveston, from Austin to Dallas, bringing with them their unique brand of lo-fi soul and oddly intoxicating psychedelia.
