Saturday 14 July 2012 – Amplified Heat * Slow Motion Rider

Amplified Heat (Austin, TX)

In a time where everybody has to put a label on a band to try and separate or distinguish what kind of music they play, Amplified Heat adopts Lemmy from Motorhead’s philosophy….ROCK AND ROLL! Not “rock”, “indie” or “alternative” but rock ‘n roll in the most raw and dirty sense of the term.

The trio consists of brothers Jim, Chris & Gian Ortiz, who have been playing music together since they were kids. Two thirds of the band were born in Cali, Colombia and the other in New Jersey. They spent their young lives in La Puente, California, a racially mixed community but predominantly hispanic. They bounced around between Colombia and California a few times before finally settling in Texas. The band pulls from a variety of influences including Cream, Blue Cheer, early ZZ Top, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath and many more.

Signed to Austin-based label Arclight records in 2004, Amplified Heat has since recorded two full length albums “In For Sin” (2004) and most recently “How Do You Like The Sound Of That” (2007) and reissued their self titled EP (2006). They have made several appearances at the annual South by Southwest Festival, the Ohio based Emissions from the Monolith Festival and have shared the stage with Nashville Pussy, Young Heart Attack, Atomic Bitchwax, Lions, Alabama Thunderpussy, Dresden 45, Bible of the Devil, Honky, The Ugly Beats, Kylesa, Dirty Sweet, Dixie Witch, and The Black Angels, amongst many others.

Amplified Heat have been catching the attention of fans running the gamut from rock and roll, to blues, to punk, to jazz, and country enthusiasts across the country. Their electrifying sound and relentless stage act also caught the eyes and ears of Rolling Stone music editor David Fricke at 2007’s South by Southwest Festival, where he states they destroyed the crowd with a ‘boogie- war vengeance.’ He was also sighted at their most recent 2009 South by Southwest show.

Amplified Heat emits a truly menacing blues rock sound out of two massive walls of fender cabinets and a vintage Ludwig drum kit in between. The sound is loud and relentless. No mercy is given.

Slow Motion Rider (Los Angeles, CA)

Playing shows with bands like the Black Heart Procession, The Warlocks, The Brian Jonestown Massacre, the Vue and others, Slow Motion Rider’s source of influences can be traced back to elements drenched in Drone (think Spacemen 3), Late 60’s art-prog-psyche-rock (Can) and heavier slabs of Jimi Hendrix style psychedelia and they visit each of these genres within the space of many of the bands epic jams.

Friday 13 July 2012 – Electric Frankenstein * The Lovesores * The Swingin Dicks * Automatic Thrill

Electric Frankenstein (Wippany NJ)

Over 20 years, over 100 record releases, and more! EF has almost single-handedly returned rock to its most basic and savage roots, the way it was meant to be. They have been receiving international acclaim for their exciting brand of Punk Rock and Roll, done with the great intensity of such bands as the Stooges, MC5, Dead Boys, NY Dolls, Damned, Black Flag, Misfits, AC/DC, Kiss, Cheap Trick, Aerosmith, etc. In addition to playing the most dynamic, ravenous, and menacing rock you’ve ever heard, EF recognizes the importance of integrity. From giving proper nods to the architects of street-level rock (Iggy and the Stooges, Dead Boys, AC/DC), to fiercely supporting DIY labels to their constant efforts to put fans first ahead of profit, EF is championing the cause to bring Rock back to the people and out of the hands of corporations. EF aren’t young or pretty, and in case you haven’t noticed neither is Real Rock & Roll. EF aren’t here to be your girlfriend, they’re here to ROCK! While stupid critics might say ‘but, it’s only rock n roll, its nothing new’, EF fans are saying “Damn, right!” as they embrace the best of what’s loud, fast, and rules from the last 30 years distilled down to one single organism. EF are one a mission to revitalize Rock & Roll and save people from the boredom of “alternative music”. EF shows are intense, exciting, and inspiring.

EF have been well reviewed in such magazines as Kerrang, Metal Hammer, Terrorizer, Rock Sound, Alternative Press, Hit Parader, Seconds, Thrasher, Lollipop, Tail Spins, Rue Morgue, Maximum Rock N Roll, Flipside, Big Takeover, Paper, Aquarian Weekly, and countless European & Japanese magazines as well. NY Press picked EF as the “Best Punk Band in NYC”. EF have received top 40 commercial radio airplay in the USA, Top 5-10 on many American college radio stations, and were Number One on Belgian, Finnish, and Swedish, etc., national radio. EF has even been picked by the Frankenstein Society as the bands representing the release of the Frankenstein commemorative stamp for the US Post Office. Not only are they one of the top most featured bands in the music press (currently #2 out of the Top 500!), but they have a loyal fan following in over 15 countries, with many bands citing EF as an influence and covering EF songs, and drawing thousands at music festivals internationally. EF’s raw, powerful, and melodic Dead Boys meets AC/DC sound that has made them the Kings of High Energy Punk Rock N Roll!

EF has been on over 40 of the world’s best indie record labels (Sub Pop, Man’s Ruin, Estrus, Get Hip, Victory, Au-go-go, TKO, Junk, etc.), selling hundreds of thousands of records. They have appeared on many European music televison shows and have had their songs or artwork featured in many videogames, movies and tv shows, including X-Files, Dawson’s Creek, Signs, American Psycho 2, Flophouse, Tony Hawks Underground, and the occasional porno flicks as well. EF have since their inception been touring the US, UK, and Europe; often as headliner, even doing a sold out show at the Fillmore in SF and played to thousands at European festivals. EF played the 1997 Warp tour. They plan to tour Japan and Australia soon. EF have played with Danzig, Monster Magnet, Marilyn Manson, Hole, Social Distortion, The Misfits, Dead Kennedys, Dictators, Poison Idea, SOD, Joe Strummer, The Dwarves, Nebula, Orange Goblin, Electric Wizard, Turbonegro, Hellacopters, and many more. One of Joey Ramone’s favorites, EF can count many other bands as fans of their music as well (Jon Spencer, Metallica, Monster Magnet, etc.), and they have returned the favor via the popular “A Fistful of Rock & Roll” compilation series, produced by EF guitarist, Sal Canzonieri.

The EF invasion has begun with Dark Horse publishing a 160 page book on EF. In 2004, EF will have a world wide art gallery and book signing tour for the upcoming book, “Electric Frankenstein!”, as well as two fantastic EF clothing lines being done by Sourpuss Clothing and Lucky 13 clothing, and EF skateboards, toys, and videogames in the works too!

Saturday 07 July 2012 – Dogz On Parole * Penny Arcade * The Bad Drugs * the Swamps

Dogz On Parole (Houston, TX)

With a blend of influences, Dogz on Parole is like a unique recipe. All the ingredients come together to form the sound and fell of the band. The band never set out to be sound Punk or sound like Metal. We just are, what ever comes out and we think sounds good becomes ours.

The band believes in helping other bands out, we’ve had enough of the mentality of being in competition with each other. Mu…sic is a universal language that is understood through-out the entire world no matter the spoken language in a country. The is enough room for all of us in music. Let’s put an end to the bitterness. Support local bands! Support the unsigned, we are the future.

Gone are the days of the big record labels having the power to filter us and only allow what they thought was good enough to sell. Let the people be the judge!

Penny Arcade (Houston, TX)

Penny Arcade is an energized and fun led by an excentric front lady, Ema Kidd, that rocks the heads off anyone who is standing too close. For four days, Penny Arcade will blow the minds of the good folks of Louisiana, Arkansas, Oklahoma and Dallas TX!!

Keep out on the look out for Penny Arcade!

The Bad Drugs (Houston, TX)

It seems so pretentious when these things are in third person. Last year (2011) me and Britt worked on our first serious music project The Alley Queens a glam rock band. Due to an overly rigorous practice schedule and real life obligations I had to brake up with the project. I still really wanted to do music and I had left with a good idea how to really promote and organize a project. I dug around a little bit thinking I wanted to start a new glam project. One day while meeting with a potential band mate it dawned on me that it wasn’t quite the right fit. I wanted to do actual classic punk rock ‘n roll which was closer to my roots. I was fortunate to find Ryan right away after this occurred to me and he was very much where I was at with this inspirations and intentions. We immediately started hammering away at putting together material and tried out a few different players. I kept commenting how much I really liked working with Britt and wanted to bring him on. I also knew The Alley Queens was a full time job and then some. Britt split with TAQ and I couldn’t stop myself from calling him and begging him to come drum. Fit like a glove and he was so excited about the project he turned Mitch on to it.

the Swamps (Houston, TX)

The Swamps are an original, 4 piece band straight out of Houston Texas. Formed back in late 2010, The Swamps are quickly becoming one of Houston’s loudest and promising bands with its stripped down, heavy punk rock style. Formed by founding members Adrian Arellano (Guitar/Vocals), and Mike Marsh (Drums), the band has been quickly catching the ears of the local underground scene of Houston Texas with its first EP “Eleven by Eight”. Since the release of eleven by eight the band has gone through a few changes with the band’s line up and finding a bassist who can stick around was a challenge all its own, but after a few previous attempts at obtaining a bassist we finally found one that matches our brand of Rock N Roll, enter Mr. Gilbert Dokken! Since then, the Swamps have been playing the local scene and bars regularly and are working on a second EP which should be released later 2012. More to come, so be sure to check us out when we come to your town!

Thursday 05 July 2012 – Morgue City * Dead Man’s Ransom * After Party

Morgue City (Houston, TX)

Morgue City is a band that has gone through many many changes in sound and personnel. Like any successful project in the entertainment world it must be made up of resilient and determined people. This is the case with Morgue City. The band that has a rock attack intensity as well as a more sinister edge as it delves into the darker realms of noiz and it’s concurrent drones. Some of the Morgue City sound is very pop rock oriented but there is always a deviant grind of sound laced in the song work. The band consists of two musicians with a very long history in the music business. Founder, SPIKE the Percussionist, is known from a long list of projects that include Astrogenic Hallucinauting, Childman, Doggebi, Delicate Terror and as the music director for the world renowned flesh suspension group Constructs of Ritual Evolution – CoRE. The lead guitar and vocals are handled by Raul who is a multi instrumentalist and has a long history of studio work and touring. Raul hails from such bands as M-87 and was the former bass player for Bozo Porno Circus. The result is a musical conglomeration both hauntingly familiar and refreshingly new as well as powerful and beautifully dark. Combine the likes of everything from classical to jazz and gloom to power noiz with catchy lyrics, sophisticated beats, and musically diverse melodies and the result is Morgue City.

Dead Man’s Ransom  (Houston, TX)

Dead Man’s Ransom is an Alternative Rock/Blues band based out of Houston, Texas.

Eric Lauer – Vox/Guitars

Andretti Medina – Guitars

Mike Neyra – Drums

After Party (Houston, TX)

Formed in 2008 as a side project for Ralf Armin (Dead Roses, Pain Teens, Culturcide, Truth Decay, Bride of Pinbot, Swarm of Angels, Really Red) and Kirston (Apocalypse Forecast), After Party is the band that always brings the party and closes the house. After Party will play anytime and anywhere that there has been a party, or will bring the party if one is needed.

FYI, that track is the first recording from last year and was recorded with the internal mic on Ralf’s little tape player. It’s supposed to sound that bad and we haven’t recorded anything since then. Should have something up by the middle of June. Might even use a superior format, but haven’t decided yet.
