Friday 27 July 2018 – The Hates, $50 Goat, The Crusties

The Hates (Houston, TX)

The Hates has been called “Houston’s first and last punk band”, and with over thirty years of blood, sweat, and that familiar mohawk, those words may be more true than their author ever knew. From his very first live show in 1978, Christian Arnheiter (now Kidd) has steered this legendary band through decades of disco, pop, new wave, hair bands, hip-hop, crossover country, and now the newest fad of tribute bands to keep punk rock alive.

In a time when many early eighties groups are getting back together to play reunion shows, the Hates have the distinction of being the oldest continuously performing unsigned punk band. And despite the love/hate relationship the local music scene has had with punk rock over the years, the Bayou City will always be their home.

It’s July and you know what that means! It’s our mid year white elephant games exchange this Wednesday the 25th! So here’s how it works:

Bring up to two lightly used games to add to the raffle and receive a ticket for each.

Raffle tickets will be drawn randomly for your chance to pick up any game donated to the raffle.

If you have gave two games, we will collect your second ticket after everyone got picked once already.

You must donate a game to get a ticket. No tickets are for purchase as the exchange is a 1-to-1 trade.

There are no “steals”.

Raffle Game Guidelines and Restrictions:
Games must be in like new condition with little to no wear.
Game value should be around $20 (at least).
Games must be complete editions. No expansions alone, they must be bundled with the full game.
No munchkin, exploding kittens, etc. Organizers reserve the right to veto games to be added.
No “bundles” of multiple small games (unless they are expansions as previously outlined).

The goal of this exchange is to trade games that you no longer want but would be happy to play if the member that grabbed it brought it back to play.

The usual info follows…

r/Houston Board Gaming at Rudyard’s Pub!

Every Wednesday Night

Come have a drink, meet some interesting people, and play some awesome board games. Our meeting place is Rudyard’s Pub on Waugh. They have damn good food and a decent beer selection. Three parking lots to the North, West, and South West and some street parking a block over.

If you are new to the world of modern board games have no fear, everyone is awesome and you’ll have a great time. We have all types of games; social games with easy rules and lots of interaction or more competitive games as well as cooperative ones. TableTop on youtube is a good place to get a feel for the types of games we usually play.

We average around 30 people and we’re upstairs in the private event area.

Tuesday 24 July 2018 – Pegstar presents: Void Vator (All Ages)

Void Vator (Los Angeles, CA)

Void Vator probably isn’t a band that you’ve heard of… yet. The L.A. based act have just issued their debut EP titled Dehumanized produced by Ulrich Wild (Static-XOtepGrinspoonSkrape). Void Vatorfeature lead guitarist Erik Kluiber (GypsyhawkWhite Wizzard), vocalist/guitarist Lukas Kanopa, bassist Ian Shea and drummer German Moura. Since the recording of DehumanizedSam Harmanhas replaced SheaVoid Vator formed in the summer of 2015 and quickly began to work on songs and refined their unique brand of explosive rock ‘n’ roll.

If you read the name of the band, then read the title of the EP, you’ll think ‘black metal’, possibly ‘extreme metal’ or perhaps ‘nu wave of thrash metal?’ Well, Void Vator isn’t like any of the stereotypical one dimensional sub genre acts; they can’t be pigeon holed. Void Vator cull from the best qualities of sub genres — the catchy hooks of melodic rock, the punch of doom metal, the razor sharp riffage of thrash metal, the accessibility of power pop and the rebelliousness of alternative rock.

Void Vator in a perfect world would go on to become the heir apparent to the throne occupied by the Foo Fighters. The gauntlet has been thrown. Void Vator have arrived. The bar has been raised. You can file this band under the heading, “If you like Danko JonesFoo FightersMustacheHardcore Superstar — you’ll love this band.”

One listen of Dehumanized is all you’ll need to realize you’ve found your new favorite band.” – Ruben Mosqueda,
